10 for 10 Terms and Conditions

The 10-for-10 program is an initiative by the New Zealand Chinese Language Week Trust (henceforth referred to as "the Trust"), designed to take 10 under 30 New Zealanders to China for 10 days, to experience a cultural exchange. The delegation will be accompanied by a guide in China from start to finish. The Trust may amend the itinerary at any time and for any time, including during the trip.

Applicants are eligible for this opportunity if they meet the following criteria: 

  1. Hold a New Zealand passport;

  2. Are 18-30 years of age;

  3. Have an interest in Chinese culture and language;

  4. Able to travel internationally between 9-19 September 2024.

 

Applicants must supply the following: 

  • Personal Details (Name, contact details)

  • Details of work/study

  • Curriculum Vitae (resume)

  • Personal Statement

This trip will make use of the visa-free status for New Zealander passport holders traveling to China for less than 15 days on business, tourism, family or transit purposes.  

 

Prior to the trip, the successful delegate agrees to:

  • Provide a video to the Trust by September 1, 2024, of the delegate performing the "5 days, 5 Phrases" challenge. 

  • Attend and participate in all information sessions offered by the Trust in relation to the trip. 

  • Provide the Trust with any relevant information it requests, including but not limited to, criminal records and history, travel eligibility and passport information, proof of enrolment or academic transcript.

By participating in the trip, delegates agree to: 

  • Participate fully and wholly in any and all opportunities offered to the delegate during the trip, and make full use of the experiences on offer while in China. 

  • Provide the Trust with the following: 

    • Daily photos and, at minimum, one video each day during the trip, via WeChat  

    • A 3-5 minute video no later than one (1) week after return to New Zealand, describing their experiences, learnings, favourite moments and key takeaways

  • Attend the NZCLW Opening Ceremony on 23 September 2024, 5:30-8pm, and be available to speak as a nominee of the delegation. The cost of travel to Wellington is not included and must be arranged by the delegate

  • Make themselves available to the trustees for any media or promotional opportunities presented by the Trust, unless an acceptable reason for declining the opportunity is provided

  • Update the Trust if their residential address and contact details, or nominated emergency contact details change at any time during the lead up to the trip

  • Notify the Trust if they have any concerns about their health, wellbeing or safety, or if they have any other concerns (including concerns about discrimination, racism, bullying, harassment or abuse, or the health, wellbeing and safety of other delegates)

 

Behaviour, Health & Safety 

  • Participants are responsible for their own conduct and actions throughout the delegation. This includes, but is not limited to, adherence to local laws, customs, and regulations. 

  • Participants are responsible for their own health and safety. This includes obtaining any necessary vaccinations, medications, and travel insurance. Participants must inform the organizers of any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect their participation. Understand that the Trust may contact my nominated emergency contact if they have concerns about the participant's wellbeing or safety. 

  • Participants are responsible for securing and maintaining valid passports, visas, and any other required travel documents. Failure to do so may result in the inability to participate in the delegation.

  • Participants must comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the NZCLW Trust and any host institutions or countries visited.

  • Participants are expected to show respect for fellow delegates, organisers, and host communities. Any form of harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in delegates being removed from the group and required to return to New Zealand at their own cost.  

  • Participants must comply with all local laws and regulations. Any legal issues arising from a participant’s actions are the sole responsibility of the participant.

  • In light of the Covid 19 Global Pandemic, travel to any location carries a level of risk and this risk is part and parcel of international travel at this time, and participants both acknowledge and accept this risk.

Costs 

Participants are responsible for all personal expenses incurred during the delegation, including but not limited to meals, transportation, accommodation that is not otherwise provided by the Trust, travel to and from Auckland, travel insurance, passport fees, and any other incidental expenses.  

The only expenses that will be covered are the following:  

  • Accommodation 

  • Admittance/entrance costs for itinerary items 

  • Departing flight from Auckland to Guangzhou 

  • All domestic travel costs associated with listed itinerary items 

  • Return flight Guangzhou to Auckland 

Any further expenses to be covered must be agreed in writing between the Trust and the delegate, and agreed to prior to the expense being incurred.

Liability  
The New Zealand Chinese Language Week Trust is not responsible for any personal injury, loss, or damage incurred by participants during the delegation. Participants are encouraged to secure adequate travel insurance to cover any potential risks. 

The New Zealand Chinese Language Week Trust is not liable for any issues arising from services provided by third parties, including but not limited to transportation, accommodation, and activities.

Personal Information 
The Trust will collect, store, use and disclose personal information about participants in order to carry out its operations, functions and activities and to facilitate the delegation.  Participants understand that the information they provide to the Trust is being collected for the purposes described in, and will be used in accordance with, the Privacy Act 2020. Without limiting the foregoing, participants confirm that they are aware that the Trust will share information about them with China Travel Service, who will use this information in order to make relevant bookings on behalf of the Trust. Participants consent to this occurring, and understand that China Travel Service and their partner organisations may not be required by the laws in that country to protect the information in a way that, overall, provides comparable safeguards to those under New Zealand law.

Termination 
The Trust reserve the right to terminate a participant’s involvement in the delegation at any time for failure to comply with these Terms and Conditions, for any behaviour deemed inappropriate, or for any actions that may jeopardize the safety and well-being of others, harm the reputation of the Trust or for any and all actions that may bring the Trust into disrepute.

 

Agreement 

If participants fail to comply with any of the above Terms and Conditions, participation in the delegation may be declined or terminated and the participant will accept full responsibility for the consequences of any such termination.  Participants understand that they will not receive a refund or reimbursement for any costs incurred up to the point of termination. Participants acknowledge that the Trust may hold them personally and financially liable for any costs involved in their termination, including but not limited to, nonrefundable expenses for accommodation, flights and travel.
